Shena Parks

Civic Engagement Lead

Lou Frey Institute of Politics & Government

Currently Shena works at the UCF Lou Frey Institute of Politics and Government located on the University of Central Florida Main Campus in Orlando, Florida. In addition to her role as Accounting Coordinator, Shena created and manages the LFI Civic Engagement Initiative. The initiative was created in 2016 out of a need she saw for the organization to build local partnerships both across campus and within the broader Central Florida Community. The focus of the initiative is to promote and support actively engaged citizenship in both the UCF Community and the broader Central Florida Community. Under the initiative, she spearheads UCF Student voter education and outreach programs, symposiums, town halls, and lecture series. Most recently, Shena lead the effort to develop UCF’s first online open-source civic module for voter education available to all 60,000 UCF Students and created voter education programs and educational opportunities for eligible students to learn about voter rights and requirements in the State of Florida.

Through her work with LFI and the Florida Joint Center for Citizenship, she supports efforts to provide   K-12 social studies and civics teaching in Florida and beyond by offering non-partisan quality learning resources and free teacher professional development.

In her personal time Shena is active in various community outreach efforts surrounding affordable housing and enjoys hosting The Engaged Citizens Podcast. The podcast is where she shares civic focused conversations with educators, community leader, politicians, and most importantly everyday citizens who share their experiences in becoming civically engaged.
